Brian Jacques Biography
Biographies of Other Children's Authors
Born and raised in Liverpool, England, Brian Jacques (pronounced “Jakes”) has had a variety of different professions, including merchant seaman, truck driver, boxer, folksinger, a bobby, stand-up comic, and a playwright. As a child, he enjoyed adventure stories written by well-known authors such as Arthur Conan Doyle, Daniel Defoe, Robert Louis Stevenson, and Edgar Rice Burroughs.
Brian Jacques’ descriptive writing style stems largely from the fact that he originally wrote Redwall for students at Liverpool’s Royal Wavertree School for the Blind and he wanted his words to paint pictures in the imaginations of the children at the school. Brian Jacques still resides in Liverpool where he continues to write books and host a weekly BBC radio show called “Jakestown”
