Kid's Book Reviews - November 2001

Each month our young readers pick favorite books that they read in the past month and tell why they recommend it to other kids their age. This month's reviews include:

The Witches

Jedi Under Siege

Patrick and the Great Molasses Explosion

The Witches

by Roald Dahl

I read a very funny book by Roald Dahl. It is about a boy who's parents died and he lives with his grandma. She is a retired witchophile, which means she is an expert on witches.

They go on vacation. The boy is wandering around the hotel and accidentally wanders into the Annual Witches Meeting. He is turned into a mouse and barely survives.

This is a really funny book. I liked how the Witches turned kids into slugs, and mice, and fleas. I would definitely recommend it to you.

Jedi Under Siege

by Kevin J. Anderson and Rebecca Moesta

Jedi Under Siege is about the Shadow Academy attacking the Jedi Academy on Yavin 4. The Shadow Academy is an academy where they train dark Jedi. The leader of the Shadow Academy was once Luke's student. The Jedi Academy found out they were attacking and put up a force field, but the Shadow Academy put down the force field with a bomb. If you like Star Wars, you should read this book.

Patrick and the Great Molasses Explosion

by Marjorie Stover

There's this molasses explosion at the molasses factory and it went down the street where Patrick was. Patrick likes molasses very much. Sometimes Patrick would dream about sitting on a tank of molasses all day long just sucking and sucking molasses.

When the molasses exploded, Patrick's mom just thought Patrick was playing in the molasses. It was kind of funny when the molasses got on Patrick's dad and then Patrick's mom thought that his dad was playing in the molasses too. This is a good book because some parts are funny and some parts are exciting.
