Kid's Book Reviews - September 2001

Each month our young readers pick favorite books that they read in the past month and tell why they recommend it to other kids their age. This month's reviews include:

Forest

Bright Shadow

The Three Pigs

Forest

by Janet Taylor Lisle

In this book there is a town called Forest. It is divided into two sections, Upper Forest and Lower Forest. Upper Forest is in the trees and is inhabited by squirrels. It is unknown to humans. Lower Forest is where the humans live.

The peace of Upper Forest is disturbed by an "invader" named Amber Padgett. After she gets home, her father, annoyed at the squirrels, shoots a few of them. Brown Nut, one of the squirrels, is captured.

This book is good because it is exciting and really interesting. It's funny because the humans and the squirrels get in a war.

Bright Shadow

It was about a girl who became a wizard. There was also a king who wanted to kill the wizard. He thought that the wizard was the girl's friend, so he killed him.

I think the book was very cool and exciting.

The Three Pigs

by  David Wiesner

It was about three pigs that went out to build their houses and the wolf came and blew one of the pigs out of the story. That was funny. After that, in the book it said the wolf ate the pig, but it didn't really. The pig went to his brothers' houses and the other pigs came out of the story too.

It was kind of funny to me when the pigs went into the "Hey, Diddle Diddle" story. They also got a dragon and he mixed up the words when he came out of the story. It's funny.
