Kids' Book Reviews - March 2002
by
Charlotte Foltz Jones and illustrated by John O'Brien
What does cheese, silly putty,
and paper towels have in common? They were all invented by mistake! In
this book, it tells about accidents that worked. For example, in the
1890s a candy maker was trying to make caramels. They messed up and made
something completely different. "Oh, fudge!" they said. And
that's how fudge was invented. This was really a funny book.
I never knew there were so many things invented by accident. Reviewed

Craighead George My Side of the Mountain is about a
teenage boy named Sam Gribley who runs away from home to the Catskill
Mountains. On the mountain he learns how to make all kinds of things
that he needs to survive. Also, in the book he finds a peregrine falcon
nest. He takes home one of the babies and names her Frightful. This was
a really, really good book. Reviewed

Johnson and illustrated by Bernadette Watts Trouble at Christmas was about
Santa's reindeer on Christmas Eve. The reindeer went to their relatives
house because they didn't want to work on Christmas. My favorite part
was when lion and dragon and other animals flew Santa's sleigh. One of
the parts that was funny was when the elephant slipped off the roof of a
house. It's a fun book. Reviewed
