If I Forget, You Remember

by Carol Lynch Williams

School just got out and Elyse Donaldson has great plans for summer. But then her grandma, who has Alzheimer's, moves in. Granny forgets lots of things. Sometimes she even forgets who Elyse is. One funny part is when they're a Chuck-a-Rama and there are two guys with goatees and long hair eating. Granny thinks they are girls and says they are the ugliest women she's ever seen.

One thing I liked about this book was it was sad, but not extremely depressing. I loved it and so will you!

Maniac Magee

by Jerry Spinelli

Maniac Magee is about a kid named Jeffrey Magee who runs away from home and comes into a town with whites and blacks. At first no one likes him, but then he does some amazing things like beating a kid in a race running backwards. One of my favorite parts was where a pitcher that had struck out everyone, pitches to Maniac (Jeffrey) Magee and he hits the ball. I liked it that someone had finally gotten a hit off him. One other good thing that happened was that some of Maniac's worst enemies became some of his really great friends.

The Z was Zapped

by Chris Van Allsburg

All the letters in the alphabet have a sentence like the Z was zapped. Ones I really liked were the J was jittery and the R rolled of the stage. There are lots of funny sentences.

Apple Batter

by Deborah Turney Zagwyn

A guy was playing baseball. At first he kept missing, but then he hits the ball and it hit an apple off his mom's apple tree. Then at his game he hit a line drive. I liked it because he hit the ball sometimes.
