Kids' Book Reviews - September 2002
by
Gary L. Blackwood
This book is about an orphan
boy named Widge. He becomes an apprentice to a man named Simon Bass, and
is assigned to steal the script of Hamlet by Shakespeare. While
he is trying to carry out his mission though, he makes friends with the
acting group he's trying to steal from. When I read this book, I felt
tense and worried when he was trying to decide what he should do, like
steal the play or keep his friends. This book has tons of suspense. It
rocks! Reviewed

Scieska and illustrated by Adam MacCauley Three boys named Joe, Sam, and Fred travel
back in time and end up in ancient Rome. There are gladiators and some
of them really want to kill Joe, Sam, and Fred. One of my favorite parts
was when they had to fight their friend. I was kind of nervous that one
of them was going to be killed. One thing I like about this book is that
even though there are some very mean gladiators that want to kill them,
they really don't do much fighting. Reviewed

Dadey and illustrated by Marcia Thornton These kids are trying to find out if there
aunt has a ghost in the attic. One of the kids saw a ghost in the
window, but another said it was just a shadow. They also found a trail
of potato chips to the attic. It is funny and cool. Reviewed
