Outside of our world, there is another, where magic and fairies are common things, and time is a fluid, fickle thing. This is the world Coriander discovers when she slips on a pair of slippers and is swept away. Later, when she is locked in a chest by her wicked stepmother and an evil preacher, she discovers this world again. Every time she is in this world, even for a couple of days, she returns to find that several years have gone by in her own world Even more enigmatic is the fact that the more she visits this world, the more she finds connections to her mother's mysterious past and to her own. This book is truly a work of art. The writing style is descriptive, flowing and enchanting, though there is enough action to keep those with short attention spans interested. It is impossible to put down and seems to suck the reader into its world (or worlds). Reviewed

Wynne Jones David was miserable. During the school year he had to go away to a boarding school. During the summer, he had to either live with his boring and unkind relatives, unless they sent him off to camp. But this summer, everything was different. One evening, after a fight with his relatives, David goes outside and in an attempt to curse his relatives, accidentally unlocks a boy named Luke from a magical underground prison. He soon realizes that his summer this year is going to be a lot different from the ones before. But will it be full of fun, or full of danger? With a combination of Norse mythology and modern day fantasy, this book will grab you right from the start and won’t let you go until you’ve read the very last
page.
