Making "Being Brave" Monster Puppets - Lesson Plan for Teachers

Brave Monster Arts & Crafts lesson plan concepts taught: Have fun making monster puppets. Optional: Discuss what it means to be brave.

Read to the class the children's picture book, Brave Little Monster by Ken Baker and illustrated by Geoffrey Hayes (more information on BRAVE LITTLE MONSTER).

Have the students use the lunch bags, crayons, yarn, and glue to make puppets of their favorite monster or themselves as a monster being brave. These can be their “being brave” monster puppets.

Optional lesson plan discussion on what it means to be brave or not being afraid of monsters: Ask the children how Albert, the monster in the book, was brave. Ask the children if they think Albert really heard and saw the children in his room or if he was just imagining it. Explain that sometimes, like with Albert, our imaginations play tricks on us, making us think we hear or see something that really isn't there. Ask the children if they sometimes imagine scary things like monsters. Discuss different ways the children can be brave when they think something is scary.
